“Control”-Free Experiment on Non-Consenting Population… Because “Science”

As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed, I discovered the following artwork here, being shared by the page, “We Are Change,” and originally posted it to my own wall, along with commentary…

"I stand against releasing genetically-modified mosquitoes in Florida"

My Commentary: “Control”-free experiment on non-consenting population?

Because “science,” you ignorant, backwards, ignoble savage! #ShitStatistsSay

Adding Some Clarity to the Misleading Claim that “All Food is Genetically Modified”

FEE: All Food Is Genetically Modified. Now We’re Just Better at It.

Rayn: LOL! Sure! We’ve been splicing plant genes with that of bacteria and insects since the dawn of humanity! *facepalm*

Scott S.: Nature has been. It’s called horizontal gene transfer- take a biology course.

Rayn: LOL. Thanks for the condescending “advice,” but I majored in biology at Stonybrook University. Before that, I went to Clara Barton High School for Health Professions, where I scored a 92 on the Biology Regents Test – the highest in my entire school.

Horizontal gene transfer is a nature-guided process of evolutionary adaptation, most common to *single-celled organisms*. It typically involves the transfer of only a tiny fractions of genetic material at a time while single-celled organisms interact with their environment. This process isn’t even REMOTELY similar to *human-directed* gene-splicing of *large sections* of *highly complex organisms,* such as plants, with the DNA of other *highly complex organisms,* such as insects, nor even with single-celled soil bacteria.

Jamie M.: They used chemicals and radiation instead.

Pondering Possible Connection Between Recent, Cure-Free Mosquito-Transmitted Virus and GMO Mosquitoes Released Within Same Area in 2012

The following correspondence originally took place upon the Facebook wall of an acquaintance, after he shared information from here

Meed M.: Y’all think I’m playing. Saturday, I said one state. Now, it’s Four states.

Florida Scientists Prepare to Release Hundreds of Thousands of Genetically Modified Mosquitoes:

I wonder if there’s a connection between these two events…

Meed M.: What?!?!?

Genetically-Engineered Salmon Will Wipe Out Wild Variety in Just 40 Years

I originally posted the following information and commentary onto my Facebook wall…

Genetically Engineered Salmon

Genetically Engineered Salmon

Tell the FDA: Stop Genetically-Engineered Salmon:
http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/gm_salmon/?rc=fb_share2

(CredoAction.com) – We have just a few days to keep the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) from approving engineered salmon as the first animal manufactured for human consumption.

AquaBounty Technologies created the mutant Atlantic salmon by artificially combining growth hormone genes from a Pacific salmon with DNA from an eelpout. This keeps the fish growing year round, confined in crowded inland tanks — unlike ocean pens where conventionally farmed salmon are raised.

Here’s where it gets really scary: the FDA doesn’t do its own testing of genetically engineered animals. It relies on information provided by the company that wants approval — just like they did in their oversight of the egg industry which produced the largest salmonella outbreak in U.S. history last month.

And because genetically engineered salmon are being considered as a new “animal drug,” there’s little focus on the potential dangers of people consuming modified salmon. It’s not enough that raising salmon in crowded factory fish farms contaminates our food with antibiotics and other chemicals. Now the FDA would be adding additional unknown risks of GE salmon to the mix.

My Commentary: Please sign this petition to help stop the genetic vandalism of our planet! If we simply allow these corporations to pollute our earth with their patented, genetically-hybridized franken-fish, then all natural salmon will be extinct in less than 40 GENERATIONS!!!! This would cause an infinite number of unknown effects to the delicate balance of our ecosystem, up unto and including the utter destruction of our food chain, and an ensuing mass extinction event across the entire world!!!

Insidious GMOs

The following correspondence originally took place on my Facebook wall, upon my post, “Better Understanding the “USDA Organic” Seal“…

USDA Organic Seal

USDA Organic Seal

Rayn: It’s Organic, but Does that Mean it’s Safer?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/dining/04cert.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all

“Organic” foods are simply foods grown naturally, without the use of chemical pesticides, fertilizers or hormones. Refined food products that bear the seal, “USDA ORGANIC,” are still processed in plants, where health and safety conditions within factor into the overall quality of the final product. Buying whole foods that are washed and prepared in the home will significantly reduce the possibility of exposure to these types of bacterial and/or viral contaminates.

When buying eggs or milk, consider the treatment, diet and living conditions of livestock, as well. Go beyond the “organic” seal. Look for products that also say “cage-free” or “free-range,” and “vegetarian.”

Thomas Pr.: I wrote for sbu a paper GM foods should be labeled.
The phylogeny of an accursed progeny. Is as I see it.

Rayn: Strange that you mention GM foods. I’ve been planning to post the link to an article about the dangers of the Monsanto company and their GM seeds. I believe that GMOs are another form of “genetic vandalism” against Nature.

Thomas Pr.: All tomatoes are GM. You want Burpee seeds for your window sill cherry tomato vines?
Its Monsanto, and don’t be surprised if you become addicted to them. There is old man nicotine in the roots (leaves).

Rayn: Damn! I didn’t know that! You learn something new every day! I bet Monsanto will claim that they genetically modify their tomatoes with nicotine because it is a natural pesticide. While this is true, I’d love to see the studies that show the longterm effects of this sort of abominable creation on the human body! Or, how about the ecosystem, once the wind kicks up and the natural crossbreeding begins?! Unlike this insanity, true good science is well-rounded, taking consideration of all factors, and making the necessary modifications required to achieve substancial positive advancement – without creating more problems! GMO is is psuedo-scientific corporatism at its worse since “eugenics”! Please take the time to post your “Phylogeny of an Accursed Progeny” paper in the “notes” section of your Facebook page, as I would definitely love to read it, as well as comment on it! The title alone draws my attention!
