(Nick CorasanitiThe sheriff of the most populous county in New Jersey resigned Friday, a day after a recording in which he made racist remarks about black people and Sikhs was published by WNYC.

The sheriff of Bergen County, Michael Saudino, a Democrat who was in his third term, had initially issued an apology Thursday evening, but declined to step down even after numerous public officials — including Gov. Philip D. Murphy, Representative Josh Gottheimer, whose district includes a large part of Bergen County, and Gurbir Grewal, the state attorney general — called for his swift resignation.

As Hurricane Florence closed in on the North Carolina coast, she quickly got prepared and opened a shelter for animals, the Goldsboro News-Argus reports.

Now, she could face charges.

Tammie Hedges runs the non-profit Crazy’s Claws n Paws out of Wayne County. The organization aims to help low-income family with pet needs like veterinary bills, supplies and more.

A Dallas police officer said he’s seeing increased hostility from Dallas citizens in the wake of the shooting death of Botham Jean by an off-duty DPD officer.

Sr. Cpl. Larry Bankston has been with DPD for 15 years and said the fallout from Amber Guyger’s actions is affecting how people feel about police officers. He said he’s had two people confront him in the past week – one a white man and another a black woman.

“He was like, ‘I don’t like police.’ Once again, I was like, ‘Man you don’t even know me.’ And he was like, ‘It doesn’t matter, you know. I don’t like police,’” Bankston said.
