(Sterling Reece) Poor Amanda Marcotte. She went to the movies hoping to see a safe Captain America movie that would steer clear of any material offensive to her militant feminist ideology. Sadly, that was not the case. Instead, she was subjected to the outrageous opinion espoused by the titular hero that the Avengers should not have to answer to the United Nations. Salon’s weekly assault on libertarianism was due anyway, so maybe it was just happenstance that a movie containing ideas which parallel those of libertarians was in theaters.
My Commentary: The original Salon article is so pathetically slave-minded, it’s actually entertaining!

Ever since information was released showing that Americans were 8 times more likely to be killed by police than by terrorists, more attention has turned to the problem of police misconduct in the United States.
But that attention is likely to become even more critical, given newly released FBI data from which a much higher figure can be extracted.
When the totals are calculated, it turns out that Americans are 58 times more likely to be killed by law enforcement officers than by terrorists.
My Commentary: Don’t fear straw-boogie-men. Unsurprisingly, many are created by those who profit most…

(Spencer Ackerman) Nearly all of the highest-profile domestic terrorism plots in the United States since 9/11 featured the “direct involvement” of government agents or informants, a new report says.
Some of the controversial “sting” operations “were proposed or led by informants”, bordering on entrapment by law enforcement. Yet the courtroom obstacles to proving entrapment are significant, one of the reasons the stings persist.
The lengthy report, released on Monday by Human Rights Watch, raises questions about the US criminal justice system’s ability to respect civil rights and due process in post-9/11 terrorism cases. It portrays a system that features not just the sting operations but secret evidence, anonymous juries, extensive pretrial detentions and convictions significantly removed from actual plots.

(Liam Stack) The Police Department in Tulsa, Okla., released video on Monday of an encounter during which, the authorities said, a white police officer fatally shot an unarmed black man who could be seen raising his hands above his head.
The department opened a criminal investigation into the shooting and said the Tulsa County district attorney, Steve Kunzweiler, would review its findings. The federal Justice Department opened a separate civil rights investigation.
My Commentary: Keep paying your “fair share” of taxes… We wouldn’t want society to devolve into chaos, now would we?
