America, America, What Are We Fighting For?

As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed, I discovered the following artwork, being shared by an acquaintance from here, and originally posted it to my own wall, along with commentary…

“War: I can’t believe I still have to protest this shit”

My Commentary: “Red is for the blood that flows from shore to shore
White is for the wash that covers up it’s core
Blue are for the seas and skies, all seized for war
America, America, what are we fighting for?”

“Land of the Free,” You Say?

"This year's winner in prison population (prisoners in millions): USA - 2.0, China - 1.5, Russia - 0.8. The United States has less than 5% of the world's population, but nearly 25% of the world's prisoners. Let's meet the champions: (Three Strikes, and other mandatory sentencing laws, not higher crime rates, are responsible for the 800% increase in federal prison populations since 1970.) (Louisiana, has the highest incarceration rate with 1619 per 100k residents, more than 2x the national average. Nearly 2/3 of their prisoners are non-violent offenders. This is largely due to the laws voted into effect by voters.) (Private prisons, are the for-profit prisons that hold over 10% of all federal prisoners. The problem: they spend millions each year lobbying for stricter sentencing laws to increase their profits.) Share better. Share this. Upworthy."

Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Were Terrorist Attack

Terrorism, By Any Reasonable Definition:
http://blog.independent.org/2012/08/06/terrorism-by-any-reasonable-definition/

(Independent Institute Blog) Sixty-seven years ago, on August 6, 1945, the Truman administration dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, instantly killing tens of thousands of men, women, and children, and causing a nuclear catastrophe that took thousands of more lives in the weeks and years that followed. Three days later, on August 9, the U.S. followed up by dropping a plutonium bomb on Nagasaki.

Assuming the conventional narrative we hear about these events is true, these acts were acts of terrorism by any reasonable standard. The typical story is that the Truman administration made a necessary and difficult calculus, deciding that the lives of about two-hundred-thousand Japanese civilians were worth expending so as to save the lives of even more American servicemen who would have had to invade Japanese mainland and secure victory.

My Commentary: “If nuclear holocaust inflicted upon innocent civilians for the purpose of securing a diplomatic result is not terrorism, then there is no such thing,” says Anthony Gregory.

Today marks the 67th anniversary of the American government’s terrorist attacks against Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Trust in Government is Completely Unreasonable
