My Commentary: Back in 2002, when Alanis Morissette released her song, “Hands Clean”, describing how she was groomed into a sexual relationship with a record industry chumo at just 14 years old, she titled the album “Under Rug Swept” for very good reason…
In November 2020, Morrisette told Bustle that the song “was about being statutorily, sexually raped as a child”. She also said, “It was sort of before #MeToo, and I think a lot of people missed the story. People enjoyed “Hands Clean,” but there was no followup on what the song was about. There was still a huge stigma around sexual abuse and coming out and speaking about it publicly.”
