Victory for African-Style Hair Braiders in Iowa:

(Matt Powers) Hair braiders in Iowa will soon be free to earn an honest living. Under a new law that will take effect tomorrow, July 1, braiders will be exempted from Iowa’s cosmetology licensing laws and will simply need to register with the state. The Institute for Justice (IJ) and braiders Aicheria Bell and Achan Agit will voluntarily dismiss their lawsuit challenging Iowa’s law requiring that African-style hair braiders get a cosmetology license.

My Commentary: But, without government, who would empower and enrich themselves by “legislating” society directly into poverty and prison, while forcing their victims to pay for the so-called “service,” under threat of violence, kidnapping and murder?

Decriminalization is Superior to Legalization, in Regards to Ending the Fallacious “War on Drugs”

Why We Should End The Failed War On Drugs (And Legalization Is The Best Alternative):
http://www.libertyandcommonsense.com/?p=376

“It constantly amazes me that defenders of the free market are expected to offer certainty and perfection while government has only to make promises and express good intentions.” This double standard, recognized by Lawrence Reed, is particularly evident with respect to the “war on drugs.” Despite over a trillion dollars spent, the arrest and imprisonment of millions of Americans,  and cities that have been turned into virtual war zones, we are no closer to eliminating the scourge of drug abuse today than when Nixon declared illicit drugs “public enemy number one” and promised to wage “an all-out, global war” “to fight and defeat this enemy.” After 45 years, few would dispute that the “war on drugs” has been an abject failure.

(Jake Johnson) In January, at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland — largely a meeting of corporate elites and political leaders — the billionaire CEO Steve Schwarzman courteously granted an interview to Bloomberg Television.

When asked about the American political scene, Schwarzman responded just as many of his colleagues have: With utter bewilderment.

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote as soon as today to set up a federally appointed control board with sweeping powers to run Puerto Rico’s economy to help the island cope with its crippling debt crisis. The bill, known as PROMESA, passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 297 to 127. In the Senate, Robert Menendez has led the opposition to the bill. On Tuesday, he waged a four-hour filibuster to protest the bill.
