Ending the Gun Control Debate

As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed, I discovered the following artwork here, being shared by the page, “Voluntaryist Gun Owners,” and originally posted it to my own wall, along with commentary…

“If society is honest and historically accurate, the only question that has any relevance to the gun control debate is, ‘Do you trust those in government, now and forever in the future, to not take your life, liberty, or property through the force of government?’ If the answer to that question is ‘no,’ the gun control debate is over. – KrisAnne Hall, JD

My Commentary: Oh, I’m sorry. Did I break your concentration? I didn’t mean to do that. Please, continue. You were saying something about voluntaryists / anarchists / non-aggressionists being “naïve utopians”?

(Colin Campbell) Two Anne Arundel County police officers serving one of Maryland’s new “red flag” protective orders to remove guns from a house killed a Ferndale man after he refused to give up his gun and a struggle ensued early Monday morning, police said.

The subject of the protective order, Gary J. Willis, 60, answered his door in the 100 block of Linwood Ave. at 5:17 a.m. with a gun in his hand, Anne Arundel County police said. He initially put the gun down next to the door, but “became irate” when officers began to serve him with the order, opened the door and picked up the gun again, police said.

(Jessica Chasmar) Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg reportedly argued Friday that guns need to be kept out of the hands of minorities in order to keep them alive.

While speaking at the Aspen Institute, Mr. Bloomberg, 72, said 95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: a male minority between the ages of 15 and 25, The Aspen Times reported.

Cities need to get guns out of this group’s hands and keep them alive, the former three-term mayor said, according to The Times.

My Commentary: Repulsive…

In the article, Bloomberg states, “While I’m sitting there waiting for [the minister] to introduce me, he said to his congregation, ‘You know, if every one of you stopped and frisked your kid before they went out at night, the mayor wouldn’t have to do it,’” Mr. Bloomberg said. “And so I knew I was going to be OK with that audience.”

In Face of Blue Privilege Corruption, Resist State-Run Gun Control

Cop Amber Guyger Is One Reason We Need Private Gun Ownership:

(Ryan McMaken) When advocates of gun confiscation complain about “guns” and say “no one needs a gun for x” all they are really saying — whether they understand it or not — is “I want only cops and soldiers to have guns.”

While gun control advocates often claim to be suspicious of police power, logic dictates that the gun-confiscation position is simply the position that only government employees should have guns. Similarly, more mild gun-regulation positions are designed to increase the coercive power of government over the taxpaying citizenry, and to lessen access to private sources of self-defense — thus increasing private-sector dependence on government police for “protection.”  The gun-regulation position is premised on the idea that only the police can really be trusted with gun ownership.

And what a terrible position that is.
