There Ought Not Be a Law:
http://reason.com/archives/2018/03/13/there-ought-not-be-a-law

() Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin wants limits on virtual currencies, like Bitcoin, that help people keep their financial lives private from folks like him. Senator Dianne Feinstein wants government regulation of political speech by foreign agents—or maybe just by people with whom she disagrees. Gun control activists want more restrictions with which to threaten peaceful gun owners so that violent predators who break laws will have more things to ignore.

If ever there was a “there oughta be a law moment,” we’re living in it. At least, we’re living in one of all too many such moments. Because people are forever looking to the law as the solution to the ills they perceive in the world around them—often only to spackle over the failures of the previous round of laws. In the process, they’re forever forgetting that laws are usually nothing more than codified prejudices, imposed against resistant populations, by sometimes incompetent and often corrupt enforcers.

Vote-begging the State to violently enforce your personal preferences upon the peaceful? You might just be a Statist!

Statists Double Down on Same, Broken Non-Solution that Already Failed Miserably

Records Show Far More Calls For Sheriff’s Deputies To Visit Suspected Florida Shooter’s Home:

(Salvador Hernandez) Broward County sheriff’s officials said in a statement late Saturday that they responded only to 23 calls involving suspected Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz or his family over the years, but records obtained by BuzzFeed News show at least 45 responses since 2008.

The number of calls made over the years involving Cruz or his family, according to the call records, are nearly twice the number publicly disclosed by the department.

On Saturday night, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office released a statement pushing back on reports that they had been called more than the 23 incidents released by the department.

My Commentary: And, the solution to all of these many police and FBI failures is to implement more laws? How innovative! Doubling down on the same, broken non-solution that already failed miserably, indicates not only a total lack of desire to improve the situation, but an underlying, opportunistic agenda to continue empowering, and increasing the size of, America’s police state.

(Jake Tapper) When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff’s deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.

Local Fox affiliate WSVN said it sent a reporter to the Boynton Beach, Florida, home of Broward County Sheriff’s deputy Scot Peterson for an interview when the reporter was met with six deputies “standing guard outside.”

My Commentary: This one’s for the “only the police and military should have guns” cultists, who proselytize for all personal self-defense to be stripped away from innocent and peaceful individuals, by force (of course), and outsourced to agents of the State, also by force (of course) – and take this position with virtually no regard for the quality of service being provided, as would be expected in the case of irrational fanaticism.
