The following debate took place on my Facebook wall, after I shared a post from here…
Diana D.: Over a hundred rockets fired from Gaza at Israel yesterday, the day of the sabbath….
Rayn: Hmmm… You seem to agree that bombing civilians is wrong… But, it’s also important to recognize the fact that the right to life is actually natural-borne, and not a mere privilege of citizenship…
Diana D.: Those civilians been hijacked by terrorists. #freegazafromhamas
Paul K.: Dual Citizenship I bet, Today is my Sabbath are you throwing BOMB`s today
Rayn: The only thing that Israeli bombs free Gazan civilians from is corporeality… Terrorism is terrorism… Being targeted by it in any way should provide adequate knowledge of its utter illegitimacy, and total immorality. It is always a criminal act, no matter the motivation, and no matter the author.(Click Here to Continue Reading This Post) →
As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed, I discovered the following status update here, posted by Voluntaryist, Robert Higgs, and originally shared it to my own wall, along with commentary…
Robert Higgs: On any given day, the U.S. government murders innocent men, women, and children in various parts of the world or gives direct aid and comfort to those who do. From the American public comes barely a timid chirp of protest.
But let some nincompoop actress make a racist tweet, and all hell breaks loose. I hope no one is so dense as to imagine that I am defending the tweet, but I cannot help but notice how telling this event is in regard to the misplaced ideological priorities of the American public and the media who cater to it. Really, amigos, is a stupid comment on Twitter more important than your blessed state’s endless mass murder?
The following correspondence originally took place on my Facebook wall, after I posted a quote shared by an acquaintance…
“Political Progressivism in the USA is an ideology that currently holds it to be an egregious wrong to refer disparagingly to women but considers it hunky-dory to kill them and their children with drone rockets. The evidence in this regard seems to me to be a matter of record and beyond dispute.”
“But, Obama dropped *humanitarian* bombs on the innocent civilians of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya, Syria and Somalia! Plus, democrats actually welcome any survivors of our ‘aid’ to come and live in America! Unlike those racist Republicans, the left cares about refugees!”
Yet most mainstream media outlets clearly supported the strike. Many US allies also supported the strike, including so-called peaceful countries such as New Zealand, which stated the strikes were a“proportional response to a specific incident – the chemical weapons atrocity.” New Zealand also said they would consider sending troops to Syria if the American government requested them.
My Commentary: Spare us the theatrics, and please don’t bother feigning indignation if you were silent while any of these lizards were busy murdering civilians… You’re not virtuous, you’re not concerned with protecting the innocent, and you’re really only embarrassing yourself with your pathetic display of selective outrage, hypocrite…
Indeed, it’s the city where, as a young state senator in 2002, Obama gave an antiwar rally speech railing against the “dumb,” “rash” rush to war in Iraq; and where, as a presidential candidate five years later, he promised to “turn the page on the imperial presidency” and usher in “a new dawn of peace.” And yet, 2008’s “peace candidate” will leave office as the first two-term president in American history to have been at war every day of his presidency, having dropped over 25,000 bombs on seven countries in 2016 alone.
