Murilo M.: We need government. The police are the ones that use force to keep order in society. Without them, many would be killed, since there are people out there who don’t follow the law. Generally, people just aren’t capable of governing themselves. And, the government can be of great help too. In Brazil, they have created social programs that took millions out of misery.

“We disapprove of State educatgion. Then, the socialists say that we are opposed to any education. We object to a State religion. Then the socialists say that we want no religion at all. We object to a State-enforced equality. Then they say that we are against equality. It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the State to raise grain.” – Frederic Bastiat, The Law
