The Truth Behind Pavlov’s “Conditioning” Experiments

As I scrolled through my Facebook news feed, I discovered the following artwork here, being shared by peace activist, Cindy Sheehan, and promptly shared it to my own wall, along with commentary…

"Watch what I can make Pavlov do. As soon as I drool, he'll smile and write in his little book."

“Watch what I can make Pavlov do. As soon as I drool, he’ll smile and write in his little book.”

My Commentary: Intriguing… Illustrations of Pavlov’s “conditioning” experiments never seem to include “the saliva catch container and tube surgically implanted in the dog’s muzzle”:

The stuffed, mounted remains of one of the many dogs used in Pavlov's "conditioning" experiments. It is currently located at the Pavlov Museum in Ryazan, Russia

Yet, this information is available even through Wikipedia!

Most fail to realize that Pavlov’s experiments were conducted on children, as well, complete with surgical implantation of saliva-catching apparatus:

This man is a criminal, in my book! His “science” should have served as multiple exhibits in his court trial!

If you call his experiments brutal, look back in the middle ages or read some books about witch hunts and different tortures in the name of God. I still don’t see anyone calling the Pope a criminal…

    • Rayn says:

I believe that Pavlov’s experiments, as well as Witch Hunts, many aspects of the Middle Ages, and all forms of torture signify brutality, Sophie. And, while you may not see anyone calling the Pope a criminal, I would simply suggest that you look in a different direction. Here is an old article I wrote, wherein I refer to all of those in control of the Catholic church as “lizards,” who “serve their master…the Devil.” I then label them as “parasites,” “the profane,” and “the corrupted”:

“God” Is Really Just Another Name for Satan!

      • mjr says:

so much hate under your hat, You will find out about God some day when you meet him face to face for your eternal reward or not. The church is the people who love and believe in God, and you are one of them weather you like it or not.

        • Rayn says:

I know all about this demonic pagan deity you call “God,” and I thoroughly reject his lies and deceptions, just as My Father, יהוה, Commanded, and His Son, Maschiach, did!

YeshaYahu [Yahu is/of Salvation] (“Isaiah”) 65:11-12: But you are they that forsake יהוה [HE IS], that forget My Holy Mountain, that prepare a table for “G-d” (Canaanite deity of Fortune/”divide”), and that furnish the drink offering unto “Meni” (Babylonian deity of Destiny/Fate/”number”) (12) Therefore will I “destine” you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.

יהוה [HE IS] Shall Not Be Called “G-d,” Nor “Lord”:

HallaluYah! Todah Yahuah! Todah Yahusha! Todah Torah!

    • Erovanproach says:

They do call the pope a criminal though.

    • Anthea Brainhooke says:

Torture in the name of science is no more moral than torture in the name of a deity.

      • Bezzie says:

No torture is moral or acceptable. Torture is a crime, sometimes people prefer death to torture, seeing how horrible it can be.

    • Larry says:

No need to be an apologist.
Just google “pope is a criminal” or something similar. The atrocities of the Inquisition don’t make Pavlov’s experiments any less ghoulish.

    • shart says:

It’s disturbing. He won a noble prize in the early 1900s in psychology but, little did they know, he wasn’t interested in psychology. He was interested in the physical aspect of this experiment. He used buzzers and electric shocks on the dogs to stimulate them too. The original reason was to learn about digestion, saliva forming and the way food breaks down. But, he then cut the hole in the dog’s throat so that no matter how much the dog ate, it never made it to its stomach. He made the holes lower on different dog’s to see how the digestive track worked. He’d have a tube down their throat to catch the saliva. If you say this isn’t brutal, there is seriously something wrong with the way you think.

    • Pixie says:

      The pope is a criminal.

  3. Jason Ross says:

🙂 Rayn! I like how you write your blog and come up with interesting points. The cartoons dictate your viewpoints so precisely. There is so much value in having a blog. I am happy the both of us have blogs where we can express ourselves so uniquely!

  4. Eric Dexter says:

I have someone doing that to me next to the citgo plant.. I suppose since my last name means dyer and I am from brown vs board the cops think it is funny… I am getting harassed when I deposit money into my brokerage account which is supposed to make me stop investing because it is unpleasant and I am getting a lot of threats promoting the priesthood and homosexuality. Topless clubs forever screw citgo..

  5. Alex says:

Not to mention his experiments on the emotional breakdown of dogs, now used in modern brainwashing and torture techniques:

    http://changingminds.org/explanations/behaviors/conditioning/three_stages_breakdown.htm

  6. Charlotte says:

don’t forget the electrocution of the dogs as well! he would electrocute them to the beat of a metronome and this conditioned them to be afraid of the metronome.

  7. Frederick Joseph Lombardi says:

Although Pavlov was involved in human studies, unknowingly, he has allowed us a look into the world of human slavery as it works today. Compulsory schooling is the ultimate result of Pavlov’s works, which is responsible for modern slavery. If one looks a little bit more closely, compulsory schooling was first introduced in the United States about 1917, this is easily attributable to Pavlov’s studies if you know that you are looking for.

  8. Bezzie says:

I just saw the pictures… that’s disgusting , abusing animals and children for the sake of a stupid experiment is trurly criminal. Like there wasn’t any other possible way to collect the saliva … come on.

  9. Mark says:

Ha, you are an ignorant type. If experiments like this never happened, we would still be in the stone age of science. In fact, the reason we know so much about medicine is largely because of the Nazi brutal experimentation. Pavlov is one of the greatest psychologists to live, and your ignorant opinion won’t stop that.

You are the criminal, wishing science never progressed. And this sad waste of internet space you call an article should be at your court trial.

    • Rayn says:

So, you’re eager to ignore the crimes against humanity that happened in the name of Pavlov’s scientific “progress”… Yet, I’m “ignorant,” and a “criminal,” because I condemn his abuse of children?

And, of course, just in case your moral bankruptcy wasn’t quite apparent yet, you then make a serious attempt to put a positive spin on Nazi Germany’s crimes against humanity… Repulsive!

As expected, only a diseased mind would accept such a corrupt and polluted version of “science.”

      • Eli says:

While I agree that this is a violent and cruel way to come about the research, Mark has a point about where we are now because of the cruel things the people of the centuries did and there are no changing them now. Life will go on whether it happened or not. Also many places and people still use these same moral standings, cruel punishments, and complete disregard for the subjects that are helping the experiments. Many clothes, devices and objects we buy from department stores that come from other countries were more than likely made by slave workers today. Try focusing more on that premise rather than bashing the past. Oh and for the record bashing the religion of Christianity because of what the pope may or may not have done is not only just seeing the small picture but frankly unpatriotic. Everyone has their right to believe in what they believe and not be slandered for other’s opinions.
